Research note: As of Jul 2022 my best analysis and surmised prospects for her unnamed Walbert father are listed below in order of my level of confidence:

Nathan Walbert (#5919), born 2 Apr 1811, s/o George Jr (#5847), School Teacher and Gentleman in L Macungie Twsp, Lehigh Co PA, married Lydia Romig (#5920).

Research note #1 and a caution: This Nathan Walbert has been my #1 prospect for the father of my Lucy Ann Walbert for many years. However, researchers of this Nathan Walbert need to be very careful. Many people recently have confused Nathan Walbert's legal wife Lydia (nee Romig) with Lydia (nee Mohr), the mother of Lucy. They wrongly conclude since Nathan Walbert is found living with a Lydia in 1850-1880 census records, they then incorrectly assume Nathan's wife Lydia is Lydia (nee Mohr). That assumption is incorrect. This Natham Walbert in those census records was legally married to Lydia (nee Romig) when Lucy was conceived and born. See both Lydia women listed in the 1850 census of Lower Macungie Twsp, Lehigh County PA:
Lydia Mohr (Living with parents. She is unnmarried and with her child Lucy Ann Walbert) and Lydia (nee Romig) married to Nathan Walbert

Nathan Walbert of course still could biologically have been the father of Lucy Ann Walbert via an extra-marital affair. But there is no primary source evidence and 100% proof of such at this time. For relatively new researchers to post online that Lucy's father is Nathan Walbert (with 100% certainty and no cautionary flags) in their online family tree with no primary source evidence conclusive proof and without any caveats or caution notes is not good, to say the least. Such online blanket assertions without primary source conclusive proof will cause needless potential false research and mis-direction in the future as this "bad penny" un-100%-proven research assumption spreads in the various online family tree circles on Ancestry.com, etc. Anyone posting that Nathan is Lucy's father needs to add comments to that link explaining the surmised circumstantial and speculative nature of that assumption, like adding a suffix to her name record saying (father not 100% proven). Please contact me if you have research questions about Lucy Ann (nee Walbert) Derr or if you wish to discuss the search for primary source evidence and proof and certainty as to which Walbert male in the area was Lucy Ann Walbert's father.

Update and Research note #2: As of 26 Jul 2022 using the new Thrulines atDNA analysis tool at Ancestry.com, which uses artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms combining even small percentages of atDNA shared between tested people with their published family tree uploaded to Ancestry.com, to suggest possible shared biological ancestry, the parentage of Lucy Ann Walbert may now be solved with a high confidence level, while still not 100% proven. The Thrulines algorithm suggested per the data available to it at this time for people atDNA tested and who have family trees online that this Nathan Walbert born in 1811 is the most likely candidate for the father of Lucy Ann Walbert. Thus as of 26 Jul 2022 while I cannot be 100% totally sure that this Nathan Walbert (who was married at the time of Lucy's conception) is the biological father of my Lucy Ann Walbert born 1848, I have long suspected that he was the most likely candidate, and I am increasing my level of confidence from 90% based on the previously existing circumstantial evidence to 99% due to the Thrulines analysis combined with my pre-existing circumstantial evidence from my prior decades of research, that Nathan Walbert is Lucy's father. But one still needs to point that this has not been 100% proven, which I do in my family tree reports.

William Walbert (#5853), born 24 Aug 1816, s/o George Jr (#5847), Farmer in L Macungie Twsp, Lehigh Co PA, married (1st) Sarah Litzenberger (2nd) Carolina Koch.

Solomon Walbert (#5859), born 3 Dec 1815, s/o Johannes (#5828), Farmer and Township Supervisor for L Macungie Twsp, Lehigh Co PA, married Sarah Seider.

Benjamin Walbert (#5873), born 6 Apr 1803, s/o Peter (#5834), Farmer in U Macungie Twsp, Lehigh Co PA, married Maria Anna Grim.

Peter Walbert (#5953), born 14 Nov 1805, s/o Peter (#5834), Farmer in U Macungie Twsp, Lehigh Co PA, married 1st Anna Maria Butz, 2nd Salome Rothenberger.

Where Are The Missing Baptism and Other Church Records for Rev. Jeremiah Schindel?

Searches for her baptism record in family records, local church records, and other traditional research methods have yielded nothing. The record of her 1848 baptism, if there is one, may be in the missing portions of the pastoral records of Rev. Jeremiah Schindel. She may have been baptized at Jordan Lutheran Church in South Whitehall Twsp, Lehigh Co PA, one of several charges of Rev. Schindel during that time frame. Here is a link to information on what is known of Rev. Jeremiah Schindel and his travels. Possibly someone, somewhere may have his missing private, personal pastoral records for the 1848 time frame. If so, I would love to hear from them and review those records.

Where are the circa 1848 private records of Rev. Jeremiah Schindel (1807-1870)?

In 1996 I decided to investigate using DNA testing to help me but I learned that the science has it's limits and the technology is not quite there yet, at least for the complex type of genealogical problem I am faced with in locating Lucy's father, at least not within the practical and economic contraints imposed on amateur genealogists such as myself. After all we can't just go out and dig up my great-grandmother, her mother, and six or so prospective fathers and have genetic samples extracted and tested. This privilege is reserved for the Pharaohs, Czars, and ancient Kings. Also, since Lucy had no known full biological brother via Lucy's mother there is no way to use Y-DNA testing of a possible male line descendant. Y-DNA testing would be inconclusive anyway since to my knowledge all Walbert males in this area are related and thus they would all have virtually identical Y chromosome DYS marker results. So even if Lucy had a full biological brother a Y-DNA test could not be used to determine which of the Walbert male cousins was her father since they all would probably have matching Y-DNA test results. The only DNA test which would be conclusive in proving who Lucy's father was would be a typical DNA paternity test and as I said that would involve testing Lucy's remains, her mother's, and the remains of about six male potential candidate fathers. As I said, that type testing is not practical to consider for a hobby genealogist. For more information on using DNA testing to aide genealogical research, visit the below page link for an overview and discussion about the abilities and present limits of the science of DNA testing as applied to genealogical research.

Apr 1854, 46, married 1 year; and Edwin O. Mohr, nephew, white, male, born in Feb 1870, 30, single.
Research note: This David Messner is not some live-in arrangement, common-law husband of Lucy A. Derr, but instead is
Lucy's 1/2 brother. See the 1860 census record for Lucy's mother Lydia Mohr which also lists a son David Messner, age 6,
at that time. When Lucy died her obituary and her tombstone reports her as the wife of John Derr. But the married 1 year
entry after both their names is very puzzling and confusing without cross checking earlier census records for Lydia Mohr.

!GENETICS:
mtDNA Haplogroup = H6a.

!COMMENTS:
Several possibilities have been surmised to have occured.
1. Lydia Mohr conceived Lucy out of wedlock and Lucy was raised
   by grandparents.
2. Lydia was married but Lucy's father died soon after Lucy's
conception and Lucy was subsequently raised by her grandparents.
3. Lydia may have divorced her husband immediately after Lucy was
conceived and Lucy was subsequently raised by her grandparents.
At this time I believe surmise number 1 to be the most probable.
