Comments: Dear Charles, (George) Adam Keiper had children baptized at St. Paul's Blue church (Upper Saucon) and he d in 1808. Tax records place him in U. Saucon in the 1770s and in Milford tp. later in his life. Do you have credible information about his parents' identity? [I am guessing his father was Johann Michael (b. 1721), but I have no records to support this guess.] Thanks for your help!

Comments: Thanks for the info! I was reading the German naming customs and it was very informative. I kept wondering if my Gieg ancestors just had some kind of superiority complex bc they named all their boys Johann. Now I see differently. Looking forward to reading more of your information and happy hunting!

There was a question about whethter her birth date was 10 November 1902 or 16 November 1902. It is written on her tombstone: "Wife Remedia M. She visited the 1939 World's Fair and apparently sent postcards to Mabel. There are others from her travels as, well. I have about 50. some are written and postmarked and others are not used. I don't know if you are interested in these, but I want to return them to the rightful owner. They are a part of Ohio history, as well as the family history. There is also value in the 1939 World's Fair. Thank you, Sandra L Holman

Comments: A good part of my background is German, however, there are also some from Great Britain as well. I have located a good part of them all with help such as yours, and Ancestry.com. My biggest pain is my Father's German line which stops at my great grandfather. He is buried about 3 miles away, but I cannot locate much. Adam was born in 1818 in Lancaster Co., Pa. He lived and died in Preble Co., Ohio in August 1900. He was married twice, with two families. I came from the only son and child of the second. His wife was "adoped" and here is another dead end. Comments: The oral history of my maternal family was that we descended from Black Dutch or Pennsylvania Dutch. My mother was insistent that we had no German ancestry, but earlier research showed that we were, indeed, descended from Pennsylvania Deutsch. Your site is very informative, and I plan to follow up with DNA testing. Your site answered all my questions regarding the various tests available. Thank you for your work. It will be interesting to discern whether we have some Asian ancestors, too.

Comments: Kerchner Info for you Charles, Great to find your website.!!! My grand-father, on my mother's side, was Silas Kerchner, and his brother John, immigrated to Assinboia, Saskatchewan* Canada in 1902?,1903? from Penn (*At that time it was still called the North West Territories, Canada) You are in error where you state, " Y-DNA tests have genetically linked the male lines of this Adam Kerchner to another early immigrant Frederick Kerchner who arrived in Philadelphia PA in 1751 and also settled in Berks Co PA, but later migrated to western PA. These two immigrants were probably 2nd, 3rd, or 4th cousins." Frederick was Adam's baby brother, that's why Adam's son was named Friedrich.. I am named after them both. My name is Frederick Sipchenko (dad's family name from ND). When I was very young, my great-great Aunt from New York state visited us carrying with her, the ancient Kerchner FAMILY BIBLE, with history starting in about 1550 .(of course in German) . Her name was Edna Hicks ( I saw Ecks in your passages: coincidence?) st Edna Hicks founded some form of artists' colony in upstate New York, and willed her her estate to same. The estate was called "Harmony Haven". PERHAPS YOU CAN FIND THE BIBLE in a museum. If you can please send me photo-copies of the family tree. Sincerely, Frederick Sipchenko 220 Erin Meadow Close SE Calgary Alberta Canada T2P -3E6 403-272-5560

My Great-grandparents Georg and Barbara Arras' family was the first, in my family, to come to America. I have been able to trace my Arras' lineage back to the mid. 1500's, however, for my Horn and Lautenschlager direct lineage this is as far as I have been able to get to. If you have any information that may help me, I would love to hear from you. Sincerely, Mary Graves

Comments: I came hoping to help, but was disappointed to see that since I am a Frantz through a female, I am not able to participate. My family hails from Slate Lick, Armstrong Co., PA and my Frantz line goes through Jacob, Isaac, and Abraham Frantz. I am confused though as to their orgin. My search has shown them being German, however some online records show them originating in France. Some of the town names supposedly in France are obviously German though, and the people were actually German, so I wonder if the 'French connection' is erroneous... My own searching is pointing to "Schallbach, Lorrach, Baden, Germany" (Extreme SW Germany) and not "Schallbach, Lorraine, France" as some of the Rootsweb notes on Abraham indicate. Do you have any opinion on the subject?

Comments: Excellent research. I have found a bit of Frantz history in the History of Lycoming County Pennsylvania. From this source, I have traced my ancestors back to Johann Wilhelm Frantz (William Frantz), who arrived in Philadelphia about 1764 from Switzerland, via Rotterdam. William married Mary Gower, settled and raised a family in Monroe County, PA. I would love to learn more, but this is all I have found to date.

Comments: Your site is just fabulous! I had 91 Y-DNA markers tested by Genebase, but wish I had gone with Familytree, as they cover markers not tested by Genebase, and have a much larger database. Finally decided to do Familytree's 37 marker test, and am waiting on the kit. I was discouraged in my early genealogy search to find there were half a million Schroeder's in the United States alone. Luckily, our haplotype was E3b, which only 6% of Germans have, thus narrowing the search.

I began a basic search out of the blue a couple days ago and have tentatively added 2 new generations (incomplete). From the variations in accuracy that I've seen in the last two days of amateur searching, I can't even imagine the amount of work it took to assemble the info you have on your site. Wow.

My father, Allen De Long of Washington, D.C.,is quite interested in your project and will be contacting you to share the fruits of the work that he has done as well. I hope that he participates in the DNA project. He is 89 years old and had daughters, not sons, so his DNA might be important to you. His father was Allen Amandus Delong --- I wonder if you have come across him. Thank you for your dedication to this work.

They are listed in, " A List of Early Settlers to Georgia" , copyright 1949, The University of Georgia Press, second printing 1967. They were with the first peoples to set up a colony in Georgia. Henry Bishop was schoolmaster at a school to teach them English in Georgia at Ebenezar in about 1734, he married a Palatine German there. He was given land by Col. Oglethorpe.

Comments: Recently discovered that my dad's (maternal side) are from Pennsylvania. They were either born and/or lived in Nocamixon Township, Bucks County, Schoenersville. The name Allen comes to mind through the confusing research. Powell and Kerkhoff, my ???? removed grandparent(s), may have been born in New Jersey or a parent born there. I am sure all of the surnames aforementioned are from Germany, and they spent their entire life there. My dad's father was second generation from Germany. My mom's side, yes some German too! But we're also proud Lakota Sioux/Cheyenne and a bit of French. This is a very cool website! ~Babette

Comments: Hi Charles, I got the information about your website from my aunt Deanie. I am the daughter of Larue V. Kerchner Moyer. My grandparents are Edgar and Estella Kerchner. I wanted to know more about my grandfather's family tree beside Emma and Jocab kerchner. And so here I am on your web page. I have your phone number and address. You had attended my grandfather's funeral. I would like to meet you at some point and learn more about you and how we are related. You are Deanie's cousin or Uncle? Not sure about that, I got confused on who is who. My home phone number is 610-689-4078. Sincerely, Terri

Comments: Interesting site. My Y-DNA results became available three weeks ago and now I have found a 24/25 match with a Mouse line, previously Mauss from Germany that came through Pennsylvania from Hornbach, Germany to Virginia, now West Virginia. What makes this interesting is that a specific person in the WV line could be my GGGGGGrandfather who was killed in the French & Indian Wars in April of 1758, but we never know who he was. My test results came in as an I haplogroup and my sub-clade results should be available in another couple weeks.
