Comments: This is a great site. I have visited many times hoping to see a link between the PA Loudenslager's and the Maryland Loudenslagers. I am descended from Solomon Loudenslager b. abt 1811 in MD, d. 1882 in Baltimore, MD. Married Harriet Ann France...their son George Washington Loudenslager married Julia A. Cooper...their daughter Harriet Loudenslager married Richard Frederick Kohlhoff. In the Baltimore area around Ft. McHenry is a place called Loudenslager Hill that has been so named for many years. Also can not find the origin of how that name came to be. If any of this is familiar please let me know. Thank You for the great site!!"spa

Comments: Have reached dead end on my paternal great grandfather James Miles b.1842, d.1895. He was a bookbinder in Phila. My grandfather was orphaned at a young age and his aunt Pauline Vogel raised him, hence little or no information. Paternal grandmother was Jennie May Keller from New Holland & her father I believe was Harrison Keller. Looking for info on that side also. I believe her mother was a Mays. My mother's side (Huffman & Keyser) can be traced back to 1737 when they settled in Lancaster Co and thence to the Shenandoah Valley. Have traced back to 1600's in Schlesien Preussen. Would love to participate in your DNA project but the dead ends on my dad's side have me stumped. You have a great site.

Comments: I love your site. It's one of the best ones that I have seen. And --the Pennsylvania Polka, was fantastic. I didn't expect it and it scared the tar out of me, until I realized it was from your site and not my Windows Media Player. My Andrew ancestors are Pennsylvania Dutch (German). My Bressler ancestors, also came from Germany and I do believe that they settled in Pennsylvania. My Furrer and Feldman/Feltman ancestors came from Switzerland and up to now, I have note been able to locate their background in Switzerland. I am 70 years old and cannot afford to pay a genealogist for their help. As a result, all I can do is keep searching and maybe I will have a break thru. I am trying to get our family tree all in order, for my 14 year old granddaughter, who is very interested in genealogy and after I am gone, I know she will continue with our family tree. If you have any suggestions, on my Swiss research, I would greatly appreciate it. If you reply to this, please use the same eight letter Validation Keyword, that you have your guest use. I know that there is a lot of spam, viruses, etc., that sure try to interfer with our computers. Thank you very much. Gratefully yours, Virginia (Ginny) Dusseau P.S. Again, I think you site is fantastic. Thanks for sharing it with me and everyone else.

Comments: I have a huge notebook of my ancestors on both of my parents sides. Your listing was most interesting but I confess I am new to the search idea. On your listing of surnames there were many codes which serious searchers probably know. I, however, do not. Is there a place on your page where these are defined or is there a place I could look? My main interest in all 4 family backgrounds is to see if I can connect to the DAR. I suspect there are several connections but I really am new at the search. How does one connect to the Mormon listing? To the Federal government in Washington? Is there a fee for the site you are using? Any help would be appreciated. I cannot yet see our connections but I am sure they are there.

His father was Lloyd Robert Laudenslager who passed away sometime in the early to mid forties. I participate, as a hobby, in a historical reinactment group known as the SCA, pre-1600 Europe and Asia. In doing this, we create a personna and name to go with. I have been using my mothers maiden name of Michael and a Scottish personna circa 1300. Recently, mostly due my liking the eleborate clothing of the era and erea, I was thinking of using my German heritage, and was trying to find the correct German spelling. What I found was much more, thank you.

Comments: Just interesting information you provide. My fathers father was left in a boys home many years back, so that is where our family name ended....From my Aunt's research yes Churchner is English and German. But I wonder did the name get changed, and should have been something else. Like Kerchner, Krischner....interest, but I have never realy bother to check into it.

I know that "von" was used as an indication of nobility, and from all recorded info that I have, there were no Stutzman nobles. They were Amish farmers who settled in Berks County, PA in 1720 and moved to Somerset County, PA sometime later. Could "von" been used by them?

Comments: Mr. Kerchner, Thanks for a great article. As to the "in" convention designating females, I have noted in certain church records circa 1770-1790 that unmarried women carried the "in", but that a married woman seemed to have her husbands last name without the "in". Once widowed, the "in" was restored. Is this a usual pattern or something unique?
