Comments: I am trying to research my maternal grandfather Frank (or Franklin) Kerschner. All I know about him is that he lived in Allentown when he died, somtime around 1957. He married again after my grandmother died, but I don't know her name, and they had two children. His spouse, my grandmother's name was Annie Williams from Slatedale. He was, I think in his early 60's @ time of death. I think he's burried in the Fairview Cemetery in Allentown. I would appreciate if you could send me any info. that may indicate a link to this ancestor. Thank you for your time. Bonnie

Comments: Hi Charles, I've just started my own family name DNA project - Kiley - at FamilyTreeDNA and stopped by your web site. Excellent work !! I am a novice at establishing a web page for the Project and wondered if you could advise me very briefly on the basics - ie, exactly where did you start? Your progress is amazing - I hate to waste most of my time re-inventing a site that will only partially attain your success. You have provided a great example for me to follow - so any starting point hints would be truly appreciated. Sincerely, Bob Kiley bobkiley@aol.com

Comments: Just starting. Actully, I found a man who has my fathers side filled in for me back to the early 1600's. (lucky me!) Loudenslager is my mother's maiden name. I tried to reply to a msg that was posted on genforum.com but the address is no good. My greatgrandparents were Charles Sessions Loudenslager Sr. and Mary Lula Loudenslager of Oh. They had one son, Charles Sessions Loudenslager Jr. (my grandfather) who married Leona Marie Roth. Together, they adopted twins, my mother (Susan Lee) and Uncle (Charles Scott) I have some info on the birth parents also; my grandparents and Uncle have passed, but my mother just located her full, birth sister. Any connection to you?

Comments: Very interesting web pages. I am not a researcher, just interested in my family genealogy. I really enjoyed and learned from your various German pages. I had always thought that Penn Dutch was just a distortion of Deutsch, but your other info was illuminating and logical. How did you get started in German names, by doing your family genealogy? Genealogy is interesting, but very time consuming and my wife has other uses for my time. Thanx, or, "Danke". Ron W. Loutzenhiser

Comments: Enjoyed your page on nicknames. I'm pretty sure I've been seeing your name in genealogy publications for 20 or 25 years, back to ads in the Genealogical Helper. If my memory doesn't fail me, as well it may, roughly 20 years ago you were living in the Frankfurt area and working for the U.S. military in some sort of engineer job. I work for the Army in Heidelberg, editing a newspaper for Heidelberg, Mannheim, Darmstadt, Babenhausen and Kaiserslautern. I speak German, and am slowly, slowly, ever so slowly learning to read the old German script. My probable ancestor is Christian Maurer, emigrated 1765 on ship Polly to Pennsylvania, was probably from SW Germany, Palatinate, Alsace, etc., originally from a canton in Switzerland. I seek no connection with your lines, just wanted to know that your hard work over the years has not gone unnoticed.

My father has published "The Douts Family History 1700-2000. But what he really wants to know now is what ship we came over on and to what port.I have checked every ship list I can get my hands on and I'm sure the spelling is what's holding me back.I did find(on a map page from 1575 that Douts came from the word de oudste which means "the oldest"and later changed to Duit. I am stumped. Your pages did explain the German/Dutch connection better for me and I'm sure my Dad will enjoy it too. Thanks!

Comments: Great site! My grandparents passed away a few years ago and, with them, my connection to the PA Dutch language. I know a little but would like to learn more. Do you have any idea where I can go to learn the language? It's definitely not the same as German, close but not the same.

Comments: I have traced our name back to Germany to the paternal grandparents of Frederick And Christian Gobal or Gobble or Goble. They came to Philadelphia in 1739 coming over on the ship Samual. The earliest records are found in the Lutheran Archives at Coblenz, West Germany and in church records of the Old Goshenhoppen Lutheran Church in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Would like any infromation on these names. Thanks.

Comments: Your web pages are very interesting. My great grandfather Levi Beck was born in 1815,Supposedly,in Chester County,PA. He was Pennsylvania Dutch and either the son or grandson of a Hessian soldier. Levi was a blacksmith by trade. I would like to know the names of his parents. My father knew some of the language, and I remember him pronouncing Deutsch as Deitsch. I didn't realize until years later that Pennsylvania Dutch is a Low German dialect! My sister sent me an email in regard to your webpage. Thank you so much. Kind regards, Jim Beck

Comments: My Grandmother, Emma Vanderburg Cascagnette taught me that she was Penn. Dutch. However, I always knew this was German. She was from Middlesex Cty. W. Nissouri, Ontario, Canada.
