Elvay Hardison married Thomas Miller 1 May 1836 in Calloway Co., Kentucky. Elvay Hardison was the daughter of David Hardison, b. 1780-1790 Martin Co., North Carolina - d. before 1850 Calloway Co., Kentucky, and Mary (surname unknown), b. ca 1792 North Carolina, possibly Martin County, NC - d. after 1870 Calloway Co., Kentucky. David and Mary Hardison and family lived in Stewart County, Tennessee from about 1820 until 1840 and then they moved to Calloway County, Kentucky by the time the 1840 census was taken.

Comments: My oldest definite direct maternal ancestor was Ellen Louise Holmes born 19 Jan 1888 Richmond Sry, Surrey, England.She married John Wilbraham 1907 Fulham, Middlesex, England. She died 1971 Richmond-upon-Thames,Surrey, England. She was my great grandmother. Her mother's first name was Emma and although her maiden name is yet unconfirmed (waiting on certificates),the two possibilities are "Withey" or "Stevens" and she was probably born abt 1826 in Bath, Somerset, England. I am still learning about my MtDNA. I understand that the H haplogroup is one of the largest. I participated with SMGF and through them I recieved my MtDNA results through Genetree. I also have results on Ancestry.com. As for surprises, if there are any, I'm not aware of them yet and I've not been notified of any but you never know!

Comments: I am African American female. I had my mtDNA analyzed by the Genographic Project. Upon receiving my mutations,(and being left to research them on my own) I uploaded them on the the Family Tree DNA website. From there I searched for exact matches. As you can imagine, I have people from all over the world who are in my haplogroup. Intrestingly enough, many people who were a match to me are Ashkenazim from Warsaw, Poland; Lodz, Poland; Russia; Frankenhausen, Germany; Bulgaria, the Carribean, and the US, and the list goes on. Since we are linked by our mtDNA, it would seem that we are all of Jewish decent. Another thing that I find curious, is the 16290T mutation which is a "Siberian" mutation that indicates Apache, Navajo, and Inuit DNA. I'm not a scientist, and don't know what to make of this. Why did this show up in my results and not many of the other L2a which I have looked at. What does it mean? I talked with a friend from my synagogue about the Ashkenazi indications. It was her (personal feeling) that many African Americans are of Jewish decent, because their ancestors were kidnapped from Jewish families in Africa. She feels that the slave masters, etc. beat, and sometimes killed the African Jewish slaves who tried to practice their Judaism, until alas, there was no more rememberance of their heritage. So the descendants could not possibly know. My haplogroup is L2a. Through my research, and due to the results of my search for exact matches to my mtDNA, I have found that there are Ashkenazi Jewish Europeans which are in fact L2a. Please write me back with your thoughts on this. Please make it fairly concise, and in layman's terms. I have received many opinions on this subject, many of which seem only to be racially motivated. Some, however seem to be based on provable facts. My earliest Maternal Grandmother was named Rachael Bennett Pool/e. She was a mulatto who married my grandfather, a slave named Norman Pool/e, born around 1846. I found him on the 1880 US Federal Census as a free 36 year old farmer and widower with probably 8 children. Grandma Rachael had died in childbirth. One of their daughters was Queen Pool/e Boston(Luisa Bestor). She is my great-grandmother, a fraternal twin, born in 1866. She died maybe around 1949 or in the 1950's of. One of her daughters was Clara Rissie Boston Flowers, Born October 12, 1893 in Alexander County, NC. She died October 25, 1983 One of her daughters was Cora Bell Flowers, Born July 20, 1917, She died on February 16, 2007, I am Cora Bell's youngest daughter.

Comments: My oldest known direct maternal ancestor is Maria Feliciano born abt 1825 from Isabela Puerto Rico. I was very much surprised when I received my assigned haplogroup of U5a. I have search much to seek information regarding my haplogroup and the information that I would find just didn't seem right. I finally got in contact with Professor Martinez-Cruzado last week and he confirmed that my haplogroup from the research that he did in Puerto Rico is U5b2. From the beginning I felt that I was assigned the wrong haplogroup from FTDNA. Professor Juan Carlos Martinez-Cruzado stated to me last week that my mutations are not found anywhere else outside of West Africa other then in Puerto Rico. In his research there were eleven who had my HVR1 mutations. There are nine of us who tested with FTDNA with my exact matches who are all from Puerto Rico. Who do I believe, especially since research has been done in Puerto Rico? My mtDNA Haplogroup is T1, European, (mostly German and British Isles.)It doesn't surprise me, since I was told our TEN EYCK ancestors were early U.S. Dutch settlers, and my mother's gggggreat-grandfather, Bell DAVIS,(Polly DAVIS'father's) Paternal line has been traced back to England. My Y-DNA Haplogroup is R1a1.

Comments: My maternal line as been traced back to Jane (also called Jannett) Evans born in 1797 in Llanstadwell, Pembrokeshire, Wales. She married John Hire on 17 Jun 1821 in Steynton, Pembs. Their daughter Esther was bapt 8 Feb 1824 in Steynton. Esther married William Griffiths 13 May 1848 in Steynton and died in 1893 in Cardiff Glamorganshire, South Wales. Their daughter Mary Jane Griffiths was born 1 Sep 1859 in Cardiff. Mary Jane married Henry Monks on 16 Apr 1879 in Cardiff and died in 1907 in Cardiff. Their daughter Esther Monks was`born 12 Feb 1882 in Cardiff. Esther married Frederick William Ball on 26 Dec 1903 in Cardiff and died there in 1920. According to Ann Turner M.D's report on my results dated 6 Dec 2006 the most significant mutations for my close cousins are 7762A, 8730G and 12172G. I am the only recorded person as at that date to have both mutations at 7762A and 12172G

Comments: Possible origin east or central Africa. Sudan (kush) just below upper Eygpt. This haplogroup traveled all over Africa and has many deviatives, (example L3e1, L3e2b.) Also found in Brazil in large percentages. There's no real understanding how L3e arrived in Brazil. More African DNA has to be tested like in Angola, to see if it came through the slave trade or not.

Comments: One brief historical comment reports that Mary Racer/Raysor/Reeser (1770-1858) was an "English Quaker Lady". She married on 3 May 1790 to Isaac Levan, s/o Daniel Levan and Susanna Siegfried, of Berks County PA, at Swedes Church in Philadelphia PA. The Levans were a German speaking French Huguenot family. Isaac and Mary (nee Racer) Levan resided in Berks County PA. While she may have been of English ancestry and the Quaker religion, she was most likely born in Pennsylvania. The German speaking PA Deustch commonly referred to people who did not speak German as "the English", even if not all of the non-German speakers were from England. Similarly the English generally referred to the German speakers as Palatines even though many were not all from the German principality of the Palatinate. In fact some of the German speaking immigrants were Swiss and French Huguenots. And not all Quakers were originally from England. There were Quakers from other areas of Europe, including Dutch and German speaking areas. Sometimes I have pondered that she may not have been English in her family's ultimate origins. I have speculated that maybe her family was originally from Dutch Quaker or German Quaker areas and they sojourned for a generation or two in England prior to migrating to the colony of Pennsylvania.
